Dr. Dickens is a 1984 ADN graduate of Eastern Kentucky University, 1997 BSN graduate of the University of Kentucky, and a 2010 MSN graduate of Walden University. She completed her Doctor of Philosophy in Education with specialization in nursing education with distinction in 2016. Her nursing career started in the neurological intensive care unit at Good Samaritan hospital in Lexington, Ky. She spent 25 years at Taylor Regional Hospital. While working at TRH she worked in the ICU, ER, Med-Surg, OR, Cardiac/Pulmonary Rehab, and Educational services. When she left TRH to join CU she was the educational director and compliance officer for the facility. She has been a faculty member at Campbellsville University since 2008. She has taught in the undergraduate programs as well as the RN to BSN program. Dr. Dickens is involved with many professional organizations such as the Kentucky Nursing Association(KNA), Capella Alumni Ambassador, and a site visitor and Evaluation Review Panel(ERP) member with Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing(ACEN).
