Adarrell Owsley

Dr. Owsley is dedicated to ensuring students become global citizens while attending Campbellsville University. He is a product of public education and is a first-generation college student; the first in his family to complete a bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degree. Dr. Adarrell L. Owsley is an assistant professor and chair of the Teacher Leader Advisory Council at Campbellsville University’s School of Education. He earned a Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from Eastern Kentucky University, a Master of Arts in Curriculum and Instruction from Indiana Wesleyan University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Communication from the University of Kentucky. Dr. Owsley worked in the Fayette County Public School System before accepting a position as an academic advisor and adjunct faculty member at Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington, KY. Dr. Owsley took a position as an assistant professor in the Division of Arts and Sciences for six years at Gateway Community and Technical College in Edgewood, KY, before moving to his current role at Campbellsville. Recent presentations: Owsley, A. (2022). The Commonwealth of Kentucky’s 50-Year-Old Problem with Recruiting and Hiring Faculty and Staff of Color. The First-Generation Scholars presentation at Campbellsville, Kentucky, focused on the lack of progress underrepresented minorities face since the U.S. Office of Civil Rights mandated the Commonwealth of Kentucky to institute equal and fair employment practices toward Black people in their higher education institutions. Examining CPE’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Policy Mandates and its Impact on Recruiting and Hiring Faculty of Color at Associate-Level Colleges in the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Presented quantitative and qualitative data on CPE’s 2016-2021 DEI policy and the lack of impact on recruiting and hiring faculty and staff of color at community colleges throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky. Gateway Community and Technical College Sessions focused on individual student learning styles and how faculty must tailor each lesson plan to meet student needs. The PowerPoint presentation elaborated on best practices for classroom instruction and cohesion of lessons across a diverse curriculum.
