CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - “Jess in the Morning” is back on 88.7 FM The Tiger, Campbellsville University's radio station.
“Jess” is Jesslyn McCandless, a senior broadcasting minor, who has her own radio show each weekday, Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. until 9 a.m.
You can hear Christian music, live weather forecasts and campus and community updates on the show.
And you can hear just who Jess is.
“Jess is notorious for talking about what the Lord is doing in her life and various stories about college life and ‘stumbling' into adulthood,” Jeannie Clark, general manager of WLCU-TV/FM, said.
Clark said Jess' goal is to make a positive impact on the listeners through the stories she tells and the songs she plays.
The show also includes a sports segment about local and CU sports at 8:30 a.m., and Jess has various guests come on the show for live interviews.
Jess, who's from Elizabethtown, Ky., said, “When ‘Jess in the Morning' first started, I never expected it to have the response it did.
“The City of Campbellsville, as well as the broadcasting community, has welcomed me with open arms. Everyone is very supportive.”
The show first aired Feb. 6, 2017. Jess explains how she got involved in the show. “I first fell in love with radio when I took an Introduction to Broadcasting class at Campbellsville University. I never expected to have my own show someday, but I always thought it would be an awesome opportunity.”
She declared broadcasting as her minor (social work is her major), hoping she would find her way back to the radio room.
“I still remember the day I got a phone call from my professor saying that he wanted me to do a show. The excitement hasn't faded,” she said.
Jess said she loves doing the show, and “I couldn't imagine college without it.
“I don't miss staying up late or sleeping in - it's worth every minute. I just like to drink coffee and try to make people smile.”
