CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville University chapter of Alpha Chi had its third annual induction ceremony recently in the Winters Dining Hall on campus.
Dr. DeWayne Frazier, dean of international education and director of the CU Honors Program, is the chapter sponsor of Alpha Chi, which is derived from the initial letters of the Greek words meaning “truth” and “character.”
“God has a plan for us all,” Frazier told the inductees. “There are no accidents in life. Everything you learn will help you in the future.”
Frazier also stressed the importance and prestige of the honor society, and noted that Alpha Chi is the only campus-wide honor society that is not specific to an area of study.
The 21 students who were inducted into the honor society were: Christie Bagley, the daughter of Dale and Gloria Bagley and a junior educational ministries major and Spanish minor from Mt. Washington, Ky.; Brittany Benningfield, the daughter of Ron and Sheryl Benningfield and a senior music education major from Hodgenville, Ky.; Dana Etherington, the daughter of Dan and Debbie Etherington and a senior music major from Versailles, Ky.;
Paige Hall, the daughter of Dennis and Melinda Hall and a junior business administration major from Greensburg, Ky.; Erin Harris, the daughter of Tim and Debbie Harris and a junior middle grades education major from Campbellsville, Ky.; Juliana Higgason, a senior business administration major from Hodgenville, the daughter of Jim and Janetta Lane of Morganfield, Ky., and the wife of Adam Higgason, a 2004 CU graduate;
Janna Higgs, the wife of Brandon Higgs, a 2006 CU graduate, the daughter of Mark and Beverly Jenkins and a senior math major and administrative technology minor from Morganfield; Andrew Hillard, the son of Michael and Rebecca Hillard and a senior biblical studies major from Elizabethtown, Ky.; Daniela Johnston, the daughter of Steve and Brenda Johnston and a junior psychology major and Biblical studies minor from Louisville, Ky.;
Dana Jones, the daughter of Doyle and Darlena Jones and a senior music education major from Sturgis, Ky.; Michelle Lash, the daughter of Timothy and Lynn Lash and a junior biology major, chemistry minor from Zeeland, Mich.; Blake Lawyer, the son of Steve and Polly Lawyer and a junior educational ministries major from Elnora, Ind.; Tami McWhorter, the wife of Troy McWhorter, mother of Trevor, daughter of Gilbert and Barbara Brock and a senior social work major from Campbellsville;
Kegan Nall, the daughter of Luke and Barbara Nall and a junior middle grades education major from Radcliff, Ky.; Iris Peyton, the daughter of William and Beverly Peyton and a senior elementary education major from Hustonville, Ky.; Taran Smith, the daughter of Tracy and Tammy Smith and a junior business administration major from Elizabethtown; Annie Williams, the wife of Michael Williams, mother of Alyssa and Elijah, daughter of Billie and Marsha Williams and a junior middle grades education major from Campbellsville;
Danielle Williams, the daughter of Danny and Melissa Williams and a junior chemistry major and math minor from Campbellsville; Elizabeth Woods, the daughter of Patrick and Sue Woods and a junior math major and English minor from Crestwood, Ky.; Phillip Wysong, the son of James and Susan Wysong and a junior business administration major from Danville, Ky., and Terry Yates, a junior organizational management major from Campbellsville, who is married to Rhonda Yates and has three children, Austin Yates, Hunter Jessie and Brayden Jessie, and is the son of Terry and Cheryl Yates.
Each inductee was given a pin and was asked to sign their name in the Alpha Chi log book after reciting a pledge and saying “ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free,” the Alpha Chi motto taken from John 8:32 in the Bible.
Potential members of Alpha Chi are required to rank in the top ten percent of their junior or senior class. The National College Honor Scholarship Society holds annual conventions, which center on scholarly or creative presentations by undergraduates, giving members a forum similar to that of professional meetings in their area of discipline.
Alpha Chi has a scholarship and fellowship program that awards more than $50,000 annually to seniors and first-year graduate students. It emphasizes its student members, providing scholarship monies and opportunities for participation in scholarly activities.
Alpha Chi serves more than 300 colleges and universities in almost every state, and also has a chapter in Puerto Rico. It is affiliated with the National College Honor Society and was founded in 1922.
