CAMPBELLSVILLE, KY— “Cambellsville University is 110 years old. It is an old school,” Dr. Shane Garrison, vice president for enrollment services, said at Campbellsville University's first-ever Intensive English Learning & American Culture and Immersion Program.
“You are now part of the 110-year-old tradition,” Garrison, who is also an associate professor of educational ministries, told 16 students from South Korea who completed the program and for whom a ceremony was held recently in the Chowning Executive Dining Room in Winters Dining Hall on campus.
The students participated in the program between Jan. 20 and Feb. 17. Dr. Kwang Suh, director of the Intensive English Learning Program, created the academic program and presented the certificates to the students.
During the immersion program, students participated in an intensive exchange of cultures, according to Dr. Mego Haralu, dean of international education and assistant professor of theology.
Students visited a variety of cities, giving them a chance to see the greater Kentucky area. Some of these cities included Louisville, Simpsonville and Bardstown, all in Kentucky, and Nashville, Tenn.
The opportunity to travel also gave students the ability to experience the American culture and improve their English.
Suh presented the certificates to the students. Certificate awardees include: Harim Chang, Hyeokju Chae, Minju Eum, Juyeon Hwang, Dohyun Jun, Minjo Kang, Hyunji Kim, Kyoungrok Kwon, Han Byeol Lee, Hyeji Lee, Heejeong Park, Yerim Park, Hyojin Song, Myung Ji Suh and Nari Yoon.
Another four-week immersion program will be June 30 through July 28 on the university's campus.
