CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Good times don't just roll on at Campbellsville University's Homecoming - they ROAR!
This year's Homecoming theme is “Let the Good Times ROAR!” There will be fun for everyone with a car cruise, parade, football game, live music and much more.
Homecoming festivities will begin Thursday, Oct. 9, and continue through Saturday, Oct. 11.
Paula Smith, director of alumni relations, said, “There is a great excitement you feel on the campus when folks meet up with each other. I hope everyone can come back and share the spirit of Homecoming.”
The class of 1954 will have its 60th class reunion at 6 p.m. Oct. 9; and the class of 1964 is having a meet and greet at 9 a.m. Oct. 10 followed by a convocation in their honor at 10 a.m., both in the Banquet Hall.
“Homecoming is a great time to come back to campus and see former classmates,” Smith said. “Homecoming is sometimes the only time that they get to see each other.”
The Golden Heritage Luncheon, for those graduated from 50 years ago and earlier, will be at 11 a.m. in the Betty Dobbins Heilman House, the president's home.
At 2 p.m., there will a ribbon cutting for the Chowning Art Shop located at 503 N. Columbia Ave. in Campbellsville.
The Homecoming reception will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday. Tickets are $15 and include a pass to the 8 p.m. showing of the University Theater production of “Dolly Parton's 9 to 5.”
The Maroon Goons will be holding a pep rally behind the Student Activities Center at 9 p.m.
Saturday, Oct. 11, will be full of fun activities and spirited events. A Homecoming breakfast buffet will be available beginning at 8:30 a.m. lasting to 11.
A car/motorcycle cruise will be on the lawn of Montgomery Library from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. To participate, contact Stan McKinney, associate professor of journalism at CU who has been in charge of the car cruise 22 years, at (270) 789-5035 or (270) 789-1860.
Many activities begin at 10 a.m., which marks the beginning of jam-packed fun with an Alumni Softball game at Veterans Memorial Park, Alumna Art Exhibit by Charleen Brinson at Pence-Chowning Art Gallery and Alumni Registration on Stapp Lawn.
Also, at 10 a.m., there will be an “Organ Crawl” giving people the opportunity to see and hear the pipes of the mighty Farrand and Votey Organ in Ransdell Chapel led by Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music.
The Homecoming parade will begin at 11 a.m. in downtown Campbellsville. It will feature veterans recognizing the 75th anniversary of World War II and 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War along with various floats from student organizations, and cars from the car cruise.
The Exie Boys, a group from Greensburg, Ky., will perform on the Chowning Patio at Montgomery Library from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
At noon, there will be a Grab and Go Lunch on Stapp Lawn for $5 with food from Lee's Famous Recipe and Winters Dining Hall serving barbeque.
Stapp Lawn will be a busy place at noon with the kick off of the Homecoming Festival. The festival will include clubs, face painting, CU authors, five-year reunions and the School of Nursing will have a booth checking blood pressure and vitals.
The CU Chorale will perform the National Anthem at 1:45 p.m.
Kick off of the Homecoming football game will be at 2 p.m. as the Fighting Tiger football team will play Georgetown College at Citizens Bank Field at Finley Stadium.
The Homecoming queen will be crowned at halftime of the game, which pits the Georgetown Tigers against the Campbellsville Tigers.
