CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— Campbellsville University's music department will present a faculty recital on Friday, Oct. 26. The recital will take place in The Gheens Recital Hall, 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, at 8 p.m. The public is invited to the free event.
The recital will feature Dr. David Hedrick, assistant professor of voice. Assisting Hedrick will be Dr. William Budai, associate professor of music, on piano; Dr. Mark Bradley, professor of music, baritone; Juliana Moura, instructor in voice, soprano; Wansoo Cho, instructor in music, playing the viola; Saulo DeAlmeida, adjunct instructor in music, playing cello; and Dr. Reese Land, associate professor of music/trumpet, playing trumpet.
Hedrick will perform four original compositions and several arrangements of familiar sacred songs, including a trio of “My Tribute” with faculty members Bradley and Moura.
Hedrick teaches applied graduate and undergraduate voice and is director of the CU Concert Chorus and CU Handbell Choir. He also teaches choral arranging.
Hedrick completed his 40th season with “The Stephen Foster Story” this summer where he served as musical director.
Hedrick retired from public schools in 2006 after completing his 28th year where he was director of vocal music at Shelby County High School in Shelbyville, Ky. During his tenure at SCHS, his choirs consistently received Distinguished ratings at the KMEA Regional Assessment Festival and the State Music Assessment.
Hedrick received his bachelors of science degree with a music area of K-12 from Campbellsville University and his master of music education from Eastern Kentucky University. He holds a doctorate in education from the University of Sarasota, located in Florida.
As a professional musician, Hedrick has sung in opera, oratorio, musical theater and vocal recitals.
Hedrick has also presented numerous lectures and seminars in vocal music education and spent more than 40 years as a church musician.
Hedrick is a member of the Kentucky Music Educators Association, Music Education National Convention and the National Association of Teachers of Singing.
In 2010, Hedrick received the college/university teacher of the year from the Fourth District Music Association.
Along with Hedrick's success in performances, he co-authored the textbook, “Humanities for High School Students,” which has become a popular textbook for schools across Kentucky
