CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— Twelve members were installed in the new Campbellsville Omega Mu chapter of Sigma Delta Pi in a ceremony Nov. 14 in the Banquet Hall Atrium.

Of the 12 members inducted, three are honorary members.

 

Dr. Nadina Olmedo, assistant professor of Spanish, who was initiated at the University of Kentucky, was the only member of Sigma Delta Pi on campus before the ceremony.

Nine members of the chapter are Spanish majors, and the three honorary members are auditing classes and one is a CU faculty member.

Sigma Delta Pi is a nationwide organization that was started in Berkeley, Calif. in 1919. The society is for honor students who are second-semester sophomores, juniors and seniors who have completed at least 18 hours of Spanish courses at Campbellsville University.

The members who were initiated include: Hannah Baird, a senior from Hartford, Ky.; Hannah Boyd, a senior from Simpsonville, Ky.; Jessica Egbert, a junior from San Vita, Costa Rica, who serves as vice president; Brent Hatfield, a senior from Campbellsville, Ky., who serves as president;

Kamika Joyner, a junior from Fort Riley, Kan.; Kaylee Kaminski, a junior from Buffalo, N.Y.; Michael McKinley, a senior from Lexington, Ky., who is treasurer; Sarah Theimer, a senior from Beavercreek, Ohio, who is the secretary; and Amaris Vest, a junior from Muskegon, Mich., who is the chapter's webmaster.

The three honorary members initiated include: David Johnson of Campbellsville, who has a master of church music; Ginger Swift of Chicago, Ill., who has a master of business administration; and Dr. Johana Perez-Weisenberger, assistant professor of Spanish at Campbellsville University, who has a master of Hispanic studies from Honduras.

Mark P. Del Mastro, who unable to make the ceremony, sent a video welcoming Campbellsville University as a charter of Sigma Delta Pi. He said Sigma Delta Pi was created to recognize outstanding accomplishments to students who qualify for the society.

Del Mastro also recognized the Sigma Delta Pi society on its 93rd birthday and congratulated the 586 chapters nationwide.
