CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -Artist Charleen Brinson of Bowling Green, Ky., will show works of art in the Pence-Chowning Art Gallery at Homecoming through Oct. 24 beginning at 10 a.m. on Oct. 11 in the gallery at 205 University Drive in Campbellsville.
She will be present to discuss her work, and everyone is welcome to come and view
her work free of charge.
Brinson is an artist who lives in Bowling Green, Ky. and works as a visual arts teacher
in a nearby town and freelance illustrator.
Brinson was born and raised in a small town in Kentucky. Yet her folksy southern nature surroundings didn't inspire her. She found an escape in the realms of fantasy and horror. She would draw inspiration from reading the words of J.R.R. Tolkien, H.P. Lovecraft, Edgar Allan Poe, Stephen King and Emily Dickinson.
She would take the visions that these books or poems provoked and create art. Because
of her vivid imagination mixed with these ideas, the art she creates are grim, narrative
illustrations that find beauty within the macabre.
“My objective is to explore the darker realms of the human existence and delineate
the surreal, fantastical worlds that live within us,” Brinson said.
After taking courses at Campbellsville University, Brinson attended the Lexington Comic and Toy Convention where she fell in love with this new genre. Releasing her inner “nerd” and love for learning, she started studying art style and graphic novels of artists within the industries including Ben Templesmith, Matthew Menton III and Jim Lee.
Since then she has showcased original and comic book illustration and has been exhibited at comic book conventions across the Midwest, including Wizard World in Nashville, Tenn.
