CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - The Campbellsville University Jazz Trio is performing in Japan and South Korea from May 25 to June 4 for 14 performances with some being special music for worship services and others full concert versions.
The trio consists of Saulo DeAlmeida and Denis Santos, both adjunct instructors in music at CU and who are from Rio de Janiero, and Dr. Chad Floyd, assistant professor of music.
Wansoo Cho, an instructor in music, who is from Busan, South Korea, is accompanying them as tour guide and translator, and Dr. J. Robert Gaddis, dean of the School of Music, is presenting the spoken parts in concerts and assemblies.
The trio is performing in churches, Christian civic groups, high schools and universities.
“We are very excited about the upcoming trip to Japan and South Korea,” Gaddis said. “Our Jazz Trio will be presenting three program options — a sacred program of hymns, praise songs and new hymns, a program of jazz standards and a combined program mixing the sacred and secular jazz selections.”
Gaddis said the primary goal of the trip is to recruit new students for the university and to also finalize a partnership with the Korean Baptist Theological Seminary/University in Daejeon, South Korea in a signing ceremony in their chapel service.
The trio, which features DeAlmeida on bass, Santos on flute and alto saxophone and Floyd on percussion, will perform both secular and sacred concerts in Tokyo, Busan and Daejeon.
Among the performances will be at Tokyo Church of John with a congregation of 3,000 with two worship services, one in Japanese and one in Korean. Other performances will be for a Christian Businessman's Association, at Busan Girls High School, Busan Port Logistics High School, Busan Arts Management Agency Concert in Busan Cinema Center, Dong Seo University Concert for Youth and Dong Eun Church, Cho's home church.
