Kentucky Employers' Mutual Insurance honors Campbellsville University as one of fourteen Kentucky organizations to win the KEMI Destiny Award for their commitment and success in maintaining a safe workplace.

KEMI is the largest provider of workers' compensation insurance in Kentucky, providing coverage to more than 23,000 policyholders in all 120 counties of the state. The company is rated A- (Excellent) by A.M. Best for its financial stability.

The Destiny Awards are presented annually by KEMI to policyholders that best exemplify KEMI's motto, “Control your own destiny.” The awards symbolize what can be accomplished when organizations work together to improve workplace safety.

The following policyholders were selected after meeting a stringent set of criteria set forth by KEMI: Ale 8 One Bottling Company, Campbellsville University, Central Bank, Central Seal Company, Chu Con Incorporated, CLARK Material Handling Company, Clas Coal Company, Frankfort Plant Board, Graf Brother Flooring, Hebron Fire Protection District, Hibbs Electromechanical, Kentucky Farm Bureau Mutual Ins. Company, Northern Kentucky Water District, Owensboro Municipal Utilities, and Worthington Fire Protection District.
Measures that have helped reduce workers' compensation costs for this elite group of policyholders include the implementation of formal safety programs, the completion of on-site training and regular meetings, and an ongoing commitment to safety from all levels throughout their organizations.

“Campbellsville University strives to foster a culture of safety for each member of the faculty and staff. We want each person to return home to his or her families at the end of the day safely. Safety is approached from a standpoint of common sense and the idea that accidents can be prevented. The central idea behind prevention of accidents is caring about each other's well being and realizing safety is everyone's responsibility. Each member of the faculty and staff does a great job being aware of their surroundings and attentive to possible hazards,” said Terry VanMeter, CU director of personnel services.
