CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will present Rodney Barbour, director of music and arts at Crestview Presbyterian Church, Cincinnati, Ohio, in concert Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 12:20 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel, 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, for the next organist in the Noon Organ Series.
This will be Barbour's second appearance in the series having performed in 2011 on campus.
Dr. Wesley Roberts, professor of music and organist for CU, said, “Heis one of the most diversified performers we have had on campus, having performed as a concert artist, serving as a church musician, organist for the Cincinnati Reds and trombonist for a circus.”
His program will consist of works by J. S. Bach, César Franck, Joseph Clokey and Jean Langlais.
Barbour will also present a session to CU organ students on “service playing” at 2 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel. It is open to anyone who would like to attend.
Barbour is a concert organist with close to 50 years experience as an organist, pianist, keyboardist, trombonist, adult choir director, youth and children's choir director, handbell director, brass director, instrumental conductor, worship leader, liturgist, contemporary worship band director and entertainer.
With degrees in music education from Marshall University in his hometown of Huntington, W. Va., and in organ performance from the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, Barbour's training and background give him skill and technic to feel comfortable in a wide variety of musical venues.
He has performed a variety of venues including conducting Handel's “Messiah” with the Crestview Church chancel choir and orchestra, playing “charge” at the Cincinnati Reds' Riverfront Stadium and playing trombone in the Barnum and Bailey Ringling Brothers Circus Band.
He has traveled as an independent concert organist, lecturer and workshop leaders.
He has performed in 44 states in the United States, all provinces of Canada, Puerto
Rico, England and Italy.
Barbour and his wife Cheri reside in Cincinnati, Ohio where they enjoy golfing, biking
and
photography.
