CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will host her eighth annual Athletic Booster Club auction and dinner on Aug. 9 at 6 p.m. in the Winters Dining Hall.
The annual event will begin at 6 p.m. with the silent auction items (approximately 20) open for bid and the meal scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. in the Winters Dining Hall on Campus.
Toward the end of the meal, a live auction will feature approximately 30 items, which include sports collectibles, golf outings and vacation destinations. Some of the most popular vacation spots include a week-long trip to a three-bedroom condo in Naples and a week's stay in Aruba.
Pioneer College Caterers Inc. will once again provide the meal for the auction with a planned menu of bacon-wrapped beef tenderloin with grilled shrimp skewers, loaded mashed potatoes, fresh green beans and a field greens salad with a strawberry vinaigrette.
“This event continues to grow each year. We hope it continues to become a community tradition and something that people are looking forward to,” said Chuck Vaughn, director of CU's athletic booster club, the Big Maroon Club.
“We've grown a steady base of supporters over the years, but are always welcome to new people. If you've never been before, we hope you can attend this year. It's a fun night with great food, good conversations and competitive bidding. Everyone leaves feeling good about the night.”
Each year, the auction helps kick off the upcoming university athletics calendar and booster club fundraising efforts. Over the past five years, the event has brought in more than $60,000 and has seen a steady increase each year.
Last year, the Campbellsville community and university alumni and friends set a record by raising more than $18,000 with 18 event sponsorships - a major increase from more than $7,000 and three sponsorships in 2007.
Cost for the event is $25 per person and the attire is business casual. Tickets are on sale now through Aug. 3.
Tickets are being sold by Campbellsville University coaching staffs, Big Maroon Club members and the CU Office of Development.
Tax deductions are also available for sponsorships and donated auction items
Auctioneers for the night will be Campbellsville's John Kessler and Rufus Hansford.
