CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville University will host Steven Skaggs, minister of music at Immanuel Baptist Church in Paducah, as the guest speaker for chapel/convocation Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. at Ransdell Chapel.
Chapel/convocation is free and open to the public.
Skaggs will be discussing “Celebrating Diversity in Worship through the Creative Use of Music.” He said he will use a variety of music styles and will blend different generations in music.
He plans to find non-conventional ways to use the musical gifts everyone has on hand, will use songs written and arranged by him, show a photo slide show and use scripture in the songs and between the songs.
Skaggs received his bachelor of music in church music from Campbellsville University in 1990, and his master of arts in church music from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1994.
Skaggs also attended Morehead State University, and he is a 1971 graduate of LaRue County High School.
Skaggs has served as an officer for both the Kentucky Baptist Music Conference and the Kentucky Baptist Men's Chorale since 2002.
He is also a member of the Baptist Church Music Conference, the American Choral Directors Association and the Chorister's Guild.
He is married to Shirley Elliott Skaggs and they have a son, Matthew Joel, and live in Paducah. He is the son of the late Joel and Elizabeth Skaggs, formerly of LaRue County.
Chapel/convocation is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through of a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
All chapel/convocations are open to the public free of charge.
