CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - James Sperry, organist at Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, Ky., will perform for Campbellsville University's Noon Organ Recital Series Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 12:20 p.m. in the Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.
The program will last for 30 minutes, and everyone is invited.
Sperry will be playing the “Fantaisie in C Major” by César Franck and four Choral Preludes by J.S. Bach, Paul Manz, Michael Burkhardt and Franklin D. Ashdown.
Sperry has had a varied career as church musician and college instructor. He has taught organ, music history and theory at Belleville Area College in Illinois, El Paso Community College and the University of Texas at El Paso.
He was head of arts and humanities at Huron College in South Dakota.
During his teaching career, he has held church music positions as organist and director
of music. His other performing instrument is harpsichord, and he has played with early
music groups at the University of Texas at El Paso and Las Cruces and was
awarded a performance grant from the South Dakota Arts Council.
Sperry holds degrees from University of California at Santa Barbara, University of Oregon and Washington University, St. Louis. He and his wife, Patsy, are retired and living in Greensburg.
