CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University's School of Theology's January Bible Study Preview will focus on the book of Deuteronomy: “A Challenge to a New Generation” at the session Thursday, Aug. 7 from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Banquet Hall of the Badgett Academic Support Center, 110 University Drive, Campbellsville.
Dr. Mike O'Neal, senior pastor at Campbellsville Baptist Church who is chair of the Church Relations Council and a member of the CU Board of Trustees, will lead the study. O'Neal, in addition to serving as pastor, is an adjunct Old Testament instructor in CU's School of Theology.
Dr. John Hurtgen, dean of the CU School of Theology, said the January Bible Study is “observed in many Kentucky Baptist churches as a way to devote several days or weeks to concentrated study of the word of God.
“The preview has been a way for the School of Theology (for some 30 years!) to provide an overview, as well as teaching helps, for those who may plan on teaching the book at some point.”
He said the preview is also an opportunity for Bible Study teachers, Sunday School teachers and dedicated laypersons to “sit under powerful teaching of the Word of God.”
Registration and fellowship begin at 12:30 p.m. There is no charge for the study, but the cost for the catered dinner in the Banquet Hall from 6 p.m. until 6:45 p.m. is $10 payable on the day of the event.
O'Neal began serving at Campbellsville Baptist Church in August 2013. He's pastored in Texas and Tennessee and most recently in Louisville, Ky. He's also been an adjunct faculty member for The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and Boyce College as well as Campbellsville.
He's a graduate of the University of Kentucky with a bachelor of arts in 1987, Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a master of divinity in 1990 and The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Ph.D. in 1996.
His first book, “Interpreting Habakkuk as Scripture,” was published in 2007. He's also written for “Preaching” magazine.
He and his wife, Sarah, have three children. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family, physical fitness, music and reading.
