CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University is hosting the Kentucky State University Gospel Ensemble, under the direction of Mario Radford, on Monday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville, Ky.
The Gospel Ensemble concert is supported through CU's Robertson Worship Endowment Fund.
The choir performs a diverse repertoire, including contemporary and traditional gospel music, along with spirituals and anthems.
The concert is free and open to the public as part of the Campbellsville University Black History Month emphasis. A special invitation is extended to church groups.
As recipients of a number of awards through the years, the Gospel Ensemble has inspired audiences throughout Kentucky and the nation.
The choir has performed on numerous occasions for statewide special events such as gubernatorial inaugurations, Kentucky Legislature events and nationally recognized leaders for activities promoting social justice.
The choir was selected as grand prize winners of the 1998 Creme of Nature HerbaRich Gospel Choir Competition sponsored by Revlon Inc. As grand prize winners, the choir traveled to New York City for a commercial recording session with gospel recording artist Kurt Carr.
Recently, the choir was awarded first place in the 2008 Louisville, Kentucky College Choir Explosion. The Gospel Ensemble celebrated its Forty-Year Gospel Ensemble Reunion on April 2009 and continues to serve as ambassadors for Kentucky State University.
