Campbellsville University's staff, faculty and coaches were reminded they “help to install purpose in the lives of students” at the 33rd Annual Faculty and Staff Recognition Service May 4.
Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of the university, told the employees their work is important in the lives of the university's students.
“Here at CU, lives change - it's what we do. Lives are actually changing because of your influences and allowing God to work through you to affect others here. It makes me proud to stand as your president,” Carter said.

“When you see all the years of service, it speaks to the faithfulness to our university. It makes me extremely appreciative of the dedication, commitment and hard work each of you bring,” he said.
The campus has faced many changes within the past few years to make adjustments and keep growing to “provide students with a first-rate educational experience while seeking to install in them the spiritual discipline of Christian servant leadership,” Dr. John Chowning, retired vice president, said.
“The decisions that had to be made were necessary in order to protect the very heart and soul of CU and resulted from efforts by outside forces seeking to control the university. And even in the challenging and difficult times and experiences, there has been a unity and sweet spirit among the Campbellsville University Board of Trustees, administration, faculty, staff and coaches. I am pleased to observe that CU is emerging an even stronger Christian university,” he said.
“Look around the university family and note the diversity of our faculty, staff, coaches and students,” he said. “Each play an important role in the life of CU.”
“I had the distinct honor of serving in leadership here at CU - first as a trustee including great responsibilities of serving as chair of the Board of Trustees, and for 18 years serving as vice president and assistant to the president. I am thankful to continue to serve in a part-time role even in my time of retirement,” Chowning said.
