CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - With the 2016 presidential election quickly approaching, one Campbellsville University political science class is getting a look at the campaign up close.

Dr. Shawn Williams, associate professor of political science, is in Iowa this week with students from his Politics and Social Media class for the Iowa Caucus of the 2016 Presidential Campaign. While in Iowa, these students will have the opportunity to experience the lessons they've learned in the classroom in a whole new way.

The class will be in Iowa for the next four days, where they will attend several speaking events, rallies and watch parties. They will be posting updates and their analyses on the Internet following the events.

Williams and his students received official media press passes and will have the opportunity to sit in the green room of events scheduled for candidates Ben Carson and Bernie Sanders, both of which are taking place at Iowa Wesleyan University.

The students have been working independently to create social media sites to document the campaign trail for the 2016 election, and for the remainder of the caucus, they will be uploading their experiences and interacting online.

You can follow their coverage at cu2016election.weebly.com or on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, using the hashtag #CUinIowa. They will also have a live feed on Google Hangouts under the username Polly Sci.
