Brig. Gen. Scott A. Campbell will participate in several Homecoming events honoring veterans at 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6 at the new Flag Pole Plaza on Stapp Lawn.
Also participating at that event will be several members from CU.
Campbell will also participate in the parade at 4 p.m. and will have a mentorship dinner meeting with Reserve Officer' Training Corps (ROTC) cadets at 5 p.m. to provide career advice and counseling, leading up to his participation in the pre-game activities of the football game.
Campbell is the Land Component Commander, Army Element Joint Force Headquarters, Kentucky Army National Guard, Frankfort, Ky. As such, Campbell is responsible for all Army National Guard land forces within the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
“CU is committed to honoring current and former military members and is continually seeking better ways to serve its military communities,” Col. William Ritter, assistant professor of public relations and military/veterans support and activities coordinator at CU, and current Army Reserve Soldier, said.
“Having someone of General Campbell's importance (in the Kentucky National Guard community) participate in our Homecoming activities shows the university's desire to generate valuable dialogue between school officials, military officials, students, veterans and local civic leaders - all with the goal of seeking new ways to better assist those who served our nation.”
Campbell's Army began in 1984. He's held command positions at every level of the Army National Guard.
Campbell's overseas tours include Hohenfels, Germany, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Kuwait, and Baghdad, Iraq.
In addition to numerous military schools, Campbell holds degrees in criminal justice and strategic studies.
He is a highly decorated combat veteran leader, whose medals include the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal and the Kentucky Commendation Ribbon.
