CAMPBELLSVILLE UNIVERSITY'S HARDIN/LARUE ALUMNI CHAPTER TO ESTABLISH ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP FOR LOCAL STUDENTS

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Students in Hardin and LaRue counties will soon have a new scholarship to apply for in helping pay for their college tuition.
Campbellsville University's recently chartered Hardin/LaRue Alumni Chapter is establishing an endowed scholarship to be awarded to students from those counties who attend CU. Dr. Michael V. Carter, president of CU, will sign a proclamation agreement in support of the scholarship at Campbellsville University's Homecoming Oct. 10.
Shannon Clark, director of alumni relations at CU, said, “The Campbellsville University Hardin/LaRue Alumni Chapter is excited to announce an organized effort to establish an endowed scholarship for a Hardin/LaRue county student at CU.”
She said a special “tailgate” is being planned at Homecoming for the alumni chapter, which is the first regional alumni chapter to be organized by the university. Clark encourages all alumni and friends from Hardin and LaRue counties to attend the tailgate, which will be Saturday, Oct. 10, on Tiger Terrace at noon.
The signing of the proclamation by Carter will take place at 1 p.m. prior to the kick off of the football game at 2 p.m., with the Fighting Tigers taking on the University of Virginia-Wise.
Debby Duda, a 1982 alumna of CU and president of the Hardin/LaRue Alumni Chapter, said, “With the economy in the state it is, many prospective students are reluctant to choose a private school because they think they can't afford it. We want to encourage students from our area to choose Campbellsville University by providing an additional scholarship opportunity for them.”
Duda said the two main goals of establishing the endowed scholarship are to help a student attend Campbellsville University and to increase the percentage of alumni contributions.
She said the purpose for endowing the scholarship is to ensure there are funds available to award the scholarship each year.
“Several years ago, some of us [alumni chapter officers] started a scholarship fund for Hardin/LaRue students planning to attend CU, but over time, the funds were depleted,” Duda said.
“Once the fund reaches the $10,000 minimum to become endowed, the fund will provide enough interest to award a scholarship every year, which can be renewed as the student continues. If we continue to contribute to the fund beyond the $10,000 minimum, we will be able to award additional scholarships,” Duda said.
Duda said the chapter hopes alumni from Hardin and LaRue counties will “get excited about the possibilities of this endowed scholarship and play an active role in contributing to the fund.”
“We would like to see the fund build up enough to eventually award a scholarship to a student at each of the high schools in our area, as well as to a home school student,” she said.
