Holly Smith, Dr.
Dr. Smith, Adjunct Bassoon Instructor, joined the faculty at Campbellsville University
in 2020. She received her PhD. In music from the University of Kentucky and her Master
of Education degree in Music Education in 2014. Holly also holds Bachelor of Arts
degrees in Music Education and Music Performance, bassoon and voice. Prior to college,
Holly served in the United States Marine Corps as a musician and worked for the Department
of Defense as an independent contractor musician. Holly has experiencing teaching
students from P3-12 in the areas of general music, band, choir, and musical theatre
as well as community adult ensembles. Holly is certified in pedagogy methods: Dalcroze,
Orff-Schulwerk, Kodaly, Gordon Music Learning Theory, World Music Drumming, and Modern
Band.
Dr. Smith regularly presents professional music education workshops at the state,
national, and international level. Holly has performed with Arlo Guthrie at Carnegie
Hall, world premieres for Thomas Pasatieri, Itzhak Pearlman, Lang Lang, Marvin Hamlisch,
Pink Martini, as well as served as Principal Bassoonist for several orchestral ensembles.
Dr. Smith currently teaches bassoon at Campbellsville University and Centre College,
serves as a Dalcroze Instructor at the University of Kentucky, and is the Director
of Liturgy and Music at St Margaret Mary in Louisville, KY.
