Former Campbellsville University Professor Dr. John Mark Carter will hold a book signing for his newest book, “The Parsons' Sons,” during Homecoming week on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10:30 a.m. until noon at the Barnes & Noble College Bookstore in the Davenport Student Commons at 410 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.
“The Parsons' Sons” is a historical fiction novel, based against the backdrop of the American Civil War.
Carter will be signing books which are available for $15. Carter will be giving a complementary autographed copy of “The Parsons' Sons” to Montgomery Library during the time of the signing.
“The Parsons' Sons” is set against the backdrop of historical Civil War battles in Kentucky.
Carter is a retired university professor, a Kentucky Colonel, and a parson's son. His parents were the late Dr. John M. Carter, former president of Campbellsville College from 1948 to 1968, and his wife, June.
Carter taught at Campbellsville University from 1998 until 2012. He taught in the health and human performance area of the university as professor of recreation and aquatics and served as chair of the department.
He also taught at Western Kentucky University and Wingate University.
One of the areas of his academic expertise has been in the developing of his university students into nationally certified student lifeguard instructors.
For 31 years, his students learned how to teach Head Start Children and children with physical, mental, emotional and multi-handicaps through university programs in North Carolina and Kentucky.
He is a 1966 graduate of Campbellsville High School, and he attended Campbellsville College from 1966 to 1968 and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Recreation from Western Kentucky University in 1970.
He has a Master's in Public Service from Western and a Master's in Religious Education from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville.
He is listed in multiple editions of “Who's Who Among America's Teachers.”
Carter is married to Cindy Carter and resides in the Pleasant Hill Community on Lake Cumberland, Ky.
