CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. -Dr. Eric Bruns, associate professor of psychology at Campbellsville University, will present “The Desires of Every Heart” on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at CU's chapel services from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 North Hoskins, Ave., Campbellsville.
Chapel is free and open to the public.
Bruns said his address is partly adapted material from a book he read called “The Seven Desires of Every Heart” written by Mark and Debra Laaser.
“The main focus will be sharing the similarities we all have for what makes for a rewarding and healthy relationship so that we can learn to be intentional about meeting the needs of our spouses so that marriages will thrive and achieve the level of blessing God intended for marriage,” Bruns said.
Last year Bruns delivered a message titled “H1N1- Happy One or Not One: What research says about the pursuit of happiness.”
Bruns served as an assistant professor of psychology at CU from 2003 to 2006 when he got promoted to associate professor of psychology.
Bruns received his bachelor of arts degree in psychology from Indiana University Southeast in 1988, his master of arts degree in psychology and behavioral sciences from the University of Houston Clear Lake in 1992 and his doctor of psychology degree from Spalding University in 1999.
Bruns served as a psychology intern at the Center for the Retarded Inc. in Houston, Texas from 1991 to 1992, and as a mental health associate at Acute Child Psychiatric Services in Louisville, Kentucky from 1992 to 1995 and has served as an adjunct faculty member at Indiana University Southeast and Jefferson Community College in Louisville.
He has also served as a staff psychologist at the St. Matthews Pastoral Counseling Center in Louisville and the program director of the Residential Substance Abuse Program in the Division of Mental Health in the Kentucky Department of Corrections.
Bruns is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Kentucky Psychological Association.
He is married to Tracy Bruns, director of business services at CU, and they have two children, Jilly and Jeff.
This upcoming chapel service is a part of the CU Wellness Committee.
“I will also share some perspectives from couples/marital counseling about the dangers of not cultivating these needs. Jodi Allen [director of counseling] will be following up the chapel with a workshop on relationship skills,” Bruns said.
That workshop will be on Thursday, Oct. 28 from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Badgett Academic Support Center Banquet Hall. Convo credit will be given for attendance.
All of this falls under the purview of the Wellness Committee at Campbellsville University.
Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through of a variety of informative speakers and presentations.
All chapel programs are also televised live on WLCU (Comcast Cable channel 10) and are streamed live on the Internet.
