Campbellsville University Handbell Choir to perform April 10

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — The Campbellsville UniversityHandbell Choir, directed by Dr. David Hedrick, will present its annual spring concert on Saturday, April 10 at 8 p.m. in The Gheens Recitall Hall of the Gosser Fine Arts Center at 210 University Drive, Campbellsville, Ky.

The Handbell Choir will perform selections by Bach, Verdi, Beethoven, Manual and others.

Hedrick said the music will be varied and include an arrangement of the theme song from “The Andy Griffith Show,” a medley of Gershwin tunes and an arrangement titled “PDQ Bells,” which is a collage of popular tunes presented in a humorous manner.

Hedrick said one of the highlights in the performance will be a transcription of the Bach “Fugue in G Minor.” Also on the program will be selections by a small ensemble.

Hedrick said the Handbell Choir is made up of 14 students from the surrounding area as well as out of state.

Members of the Handbell Choir include: Josh Carney of Bardstown, Ky.; Chris Clan and Chelsea Smith, both of Elizabethtown, Ky.; Carmen Drake of Hodgenville, Ky.; Daniel Druen of Munfordville, Ky.; Deidra Evans and Jamie E. Evans, both of Bradfordsville, Ky.;

Mary Gray of Owensboro, Ky.; Timothy Howe of Dry Ridge, Ky.; Brittany Judd of Campbellsville; Lisa Lash of Zeeland, Mich.; Rebecca Oliver of Scottsville, Ky.; Tiffany Trent of Brandenburg, Ky.; and Chris Williams of Columbia, Tenn.

Hedrick is in his fourth year on the CU School of Music faculty in music education and applied voice. He has worked with bell choirs in various churches throughout his 40-year year career in church music.

He is a published arranger and composer and is musical director of “The Stephen Foster Story,” a summer outdoor musical located at My Old Kentucky Home State Park in Bardstown, Ky. This is Hedrick's first year as director of handbells at CU.

The concert is free and open to the public.
