Board of Trustees vice-chair to speak at ‘Dialogue on Race’ chapel service

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. - Campbellsville University will host Dr. Joseph L. Owens, a 1977 alumnus of Campbellsville College and vice-chair of the Board of Trustees, at CU's weekly chapel service Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 10 a.m. in the Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

Chapel is free and open to the public.

Owens received a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Studies from Campbellsville College in 1977, and furthered his education by graduating from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky. with a Master of Divinity and a Master of Religious Education degree in 1980.

Owens serves as chairman of the Black Church Coalition of the Bluegrass, based in Lexington, Ky. He is a member of the Building a United Interfaith, and he is a member of the Board of Directors for DART (Direct Action Research Training) and North Lexington Branch YMCA. He serves as moderator of Consolidated District Baptist Association.

Owens is the vice-chair of the Board of Trustees at CU. He also is a recipient of the Campbellsville University Distinguished Alumni award.

Owens serves as pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church in Lexington, Ky.

He served as pastor for seven years at Second Baptist Church in Vincennes, Ind., and for 11 years at Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Midway, Ky.

Owens is married to the former Elizabeth White of Jacksonville, Fla., also a 1977graduate of Campbellsville College. She currently works with Fayette County Schools as a Child Guidance Specialist. Together, they have two children, Charisa Jene' and John Mark.

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations.

All chapels are open to the public free of charge and are televised live on WLCU- (Campbellsville Cable channel 10) and are streamed live on the Internet.
