Signal Technician, Public Works-Operations of Bowling Green, Bowling Green, KY

Signal Technician, Public Works-Operations: This position is to maintain and repair traffic control signals, traffic signs and permanent pavement markings. Duties and responsibilities include operating light to heavy equipment, specialty tools and preforming required manual task of installing street signs, permanent pavement markings and traffic signal equipment.

DUTIES: The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned. SIGNAL TECHNICIAN I: Operates equipment such as dump trucks, bucket truck, traffic control truck and sign installation tools. Installs traffic control signs and sign post. Changes traffic signal LED elements. Wires traffic signal heads. Fabricates traffic signs. Installs permanent pavement markings. Assists with tasks such as snow plowing, tree trimming or similar maintenance tasks as required. SIGNAL TECHNICIAN II: In addition to the Signal Technician I duties, serves as a lead worker, instructs, and trains other personnel. Processes and fabricates traffic control signs using computer software. Determines layout of permanent pavement markings per MUTCD. Trouble shoot traffic signal controllers. Inspects upon completion new traffic signal intersections to insure proper installation.

REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma (or GED) or vocational training preferred, with six to twelve months of experience working with light equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid Class a Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License.

SALARY: $40,658 – $46,960.10/ yr. ($19.55 – $22.58/hr.) SIGNAL TECHNICIAN I: Pay Grade 115, $40,658 – $44,723.80/yr. ($19.55 – 21.50/hr.). SIGNAL TECHNICIAN II: $42,691-$46,960.10/yr. ($20.52 – 22.58/hr) plus a full benefit package. NOTE: A candidate’s qualifications and experience will determine position and salary.

WORK HOURS: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; Monday – Friday, with occasional overtime expected.
