Public Works Maintenance Worker (OMT I), The City of Bowling Green, Bowling Green, KY

This entry level position will have opportunities for additional career paths to develop into a higher-grade Operations Maintenance Technician. This position performs assigned manual tasks and/or operate lights equipment to provide support for the assigned department. Duties and responsibilities include: maintaining designated City grounds and structures; operating equipment and performing manual tasks in the construction, repair, maintenance or cleaning of City property/grounds, structures, or facilities; and working to achieve the highest level of cooperation and to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of the department.

DUTIES: Operates light equipment such as tractor & bush hog, chain saw, weed eater, riding mower, chipper, leaf equipment, dump truck concrete saw, paint stripper in compliance with City safety regulations. May also train on heavy equipment such as backhoe, trackhoe, front-end loader, etc., in compliance with City safety regulations. Mows assigned City property; removes brush, tree limbs, and leaves with chipper and leaf machines; cleans alleys and right-of-way locations; removes snow and ice from streets and sidewalks as required. Drives and operates dump trucks in hauling material to and from sites, front-end loader for loading trucks, and snow removal and salt equipment for clearing streets. Repairs sidewalks and other concrete areas; resurfaces and repairs roadways; maintains roadway curbs, crosswalks, and stop bars. Cleans and repairs drainage structures; Operates drill rig in drilling of drywells. Maintains and controls right-of-way locations; signals traffic at points of safety hazard during roadway construction or repair.

REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma (or GED) or vocational training preferred, with six to twelve months of experience working with light equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid driver’s license. Possession of a valid Class A Kentucky Commercial Driver’s License is preferred or ability to attain within first year of employment.

SALARY: Pay Grade 111; $35,624/yr. ($17.13/hr) plus a full benefit package.

WORK HOURS: 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.; Monday – Friday, with occasional overtime expected.
