Parks Facility Maintainer I, The City of Bowling Green’s Human Resources Department, Bowling Green, KY

This position performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks for the assigned area. Duties and responsibilities include operating equipment, such as dump trucks, tractors, mowers, or backhoes in the maintenance, cleaning, and repairing of assigned grounds, facilities, and equipment.

DUTIES: Operates dump trucks, tractors, mowers, weed eaters, front-end loaders, and various hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, rakes, saws, or drills to perform routine grounds maintenance and facility maintenance for the assigned areas. Performs maintenance and construction duties including: painting buildings and parks equipment; including benches, tables, and trash barrels; applies chemicals and fertilizers; mixes cement to pour and lay foundations. Performs routine repairs including: plumbing and irrigation, general carpentry, minor electrical, welding or small engine. Provides assistance with funerals, including setting up tents and casket lowering device, placing vault covers, taking down tents and storing after use and general cleanup of gravesite area. Trims trees and bushes as required. Maintains records of activities and prepares routine reports as required.

REQUIREMENTS: High School diploma (or GED) and one year of vocational school education in heavy equipment, with six months to one year of experience safely operating light and medium equipment (or related) required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess a valid driver’s license.

SALARY: Pay Grade 111; $35,624 ($17.12/hour), plus full benefits package including medical, dental, and vision; retirement; term life insurance. The City pays 95% of medical insurance premium costs for single and family coverage.

WORK HOURS: Weekdays 7:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.; overtime and weekend work required
