RECRUITMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: PARALEGAL, LEGAL DEPARTMENT

Assist staff attorney by researching legal issues, investigating facts and preparing legal documents. Provides
administrative support for City Attorney.
DUTIES: Conducts extensive legal research relating to complex problems and projects and prepares
memoranda and/or opinions containing recommended courses of action and/or solutions to legal issues.
Conducts investigations and interviews with City employees and others in order to gather information relating
to particular legal issues and/or litigation. Provides assistance to various City departments relating to responses
to legal issues and/or preparation of legal documents. Prepares drafts of resolutions, ordinances, responses to
legal requests, leases and contracts. Assist the City Attorney in preparing for trial and in preparing responses to
request for legal opinions. Prepares drafts of initial pleadings, discovery documents, motions, briefs and other
legal pleadings and papers relating to litigation. Prepares graphic aids, tables, slides and other audio/visual
devices for the City Attorney. Establishes and maintains a fully indexed and cross-referenced bank of briefs,
memoranda, and other research documents previously produced by the Department. Maintains accurate records
or deadlines and other scheduling matters. Conducts property title searches with ability to prepare all necessary
closing documents. Performs general administrative/clerical duties for the City Attorney, to include typing,
filing, scheduling, copying, etc.
REQUIREMENTS: A Certificate in Paralegal Studies or related field required with three to five years of
professional, related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which
provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Must possess the basic knowledge of the
principles, methods, materials and practices of legal research. Knowledge of legal publications and ability to
keep such publications organized and up to date required. Must possess ability to deal tactfully and effectively
with City officials, employees, court officials and the general public. Extensive writing skills and enhanced
communication skills required.
SALARY: Non-exempt; Pay Grade 121; $58,027 ($27.90/hr.); plus full benefits package
WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week; Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.; on-site position
