ODU Online is accepting applications for two Student Success Director positions:

  • FP130A: This position is located at Lord Fairfax Community College (Middletown Campus) in Middletown, VA.
  • FP171A: This position is located at Southside Virginia Community College (Christianna Campus) in Alberta, VA.

This position will serve as the advisor and student coach for current distance learning students in assigned programs. The Student Success Director will also support University enrollment and retention goals by advising and coaching current distance learning students through the entire process, from matriculation to graduation. This position will also represent Old Dominion University and ODUOnline, serving as agents of the University, as necessary, in support of partnership relations, location operations, program promotion or process improvement.

Required Education: Master’s degree in higher education (or related field) and/or master’s degree in unrelated field combined with some related work experience in higher education areas of student services and academic advising may be accepted.

Required Qualifications: Some experience as an academic advisor in a college or university setting; preference for online experience. Some higher education experience with student services (i.e., admissions, registration, tutoring, student financial aid, veteran’s benefits). Understanding of the core values of advising and theory relevant to advising. Knowledge of legal guidelines of advising practice, including privacy regulations and confidentiality. Understanding of the characteristics, needs, and experiences of major and emerging student populations. Information technology skills applicable to advise, support students, work and collaborate entirely in an online and teleworking environment. Ability to adapt to potential time zone differences in serving students worldwide. Demonstrated ability to relate to and communicate with individuals and groups of designated students in an inclusive and culturally competent manner through the use of basic communication, helping, and problem-solving skills. Ability to engage in ongoing assessment and development of self and the advising practice.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience using relevant information technology collaboration tools (SLACK, Skype, WebEx/Adobe Connect, MS Outlook, SharePoint, MS Office, Blackboard), customer relationship management systems (EAB Student Success Collaborative), and student information systems (BANNER).
