Lifeguard/Pool Attendant, Home of the Innocents, Louisville, KY

PRN/Relief: Scheduled according to need

The primary purpose of this position is to provide a safe and healthy facility for all visitors and to uphold all regulations that govern the Home of the Innocents. This includes but is not limited to duties as may be given by the Director of the Advanced Therapy Center. Lifeguards and Pool Attendants shall ensure that the highest degree of quality programmatic offerings and facility operation is maintained at all times.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist management in maintaining operations in accordance with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility including the Health Department and OSHA as needed.
  • Complete all required documentation including reports of exposure to potentially infectious or hazardous materials as needed.
  • Communicate and maintain effective working relationships with program staff and non-HOTI persons to ensure quality and safety. Coordinate with all visitors to assure optimal use of the facility as needed.
  • Participate in all proper orientations, trainings and drills as needed.
  • Maintain all proper lifeguard/pool attendant certifications as mandated by HOTI and local government agencies as needed.
  • Be proactive in eliminating hazards and be able to react quickly if an accident occurs as needed.
  • Ensure that all equipment and facility areas are maintained and all facility users are following established safety regulations as needed.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of all facility users’ information and report and investigate all allegations of client abuse and/or misappropriation of property as needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma required.
  • Must be certified as a lifeguard or pool attendant by Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Board of Health.
  • Must have current Basic Life Saving for the Healthcare Provider, Basic First Aid, Lifeguard/Pool Attendant Certification.
  • Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to react to a situation independently when circumstances warrant such an action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully and patiently with all guests.
  • Must be knowledgeable of aquatics practices and procedures and local laws that pertain to pools.
  • Must possess the willingness to work harmoniously as part of a team.
  • Must possess willingness to handle difficult people with tact and enthusiasm.
  • Must be willing to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
  • Experience working directly with children or special populations preferred.

Working Conditions

All Lifeguards/Pool Attendants   will experience long periods of sitting or standing in one place. They are also involved with residents/clients, personnel, visitors, government agencies/personnel, etc., under all conditions and circumstances including hostile and emotionally upset residents/clients, family members, personnel and visitors. Lifeguards/Pool Attendants must possess effective communication skills and a positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

  • Employee must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Employee must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Employee must be able to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to ensure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
  • Employee must function independently, and have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Employee must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and, at times, hostile people within the facility.
  • Employee must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of four feet and be able to push, pull, move, and/or carry such weight a minimum distance of 100 feet.
  • It may be necessary for the employee to assist in the evacuation of residents / clients during emergency situations.
