Children’s Pastor (Part-time), Westside Community Church, Hustonville, KY

Description

The Children’s Pastor will be a person committed to the Christian faith and life who seeks to understand and work under the mission and vision of Westside Community Church. They will serve as the leader of all programming activities for children from nursery through the 5th grade with the goal of leading students to a personal faith and lifestyle of discipleship. They will develop a Children’s Ministry Team (CMT) and together they will organize and oversee the children’s ministry of WCC. The Children’s Pastor is responsible for the day-to-day details, but the execution of those details can be handled by a volunteer minister. This person will be committed to establishing and nurturing relationships with both children and families.

Weekly Expectations

Generally, 6 to 9 hours per week plus full participation in congregational life. During Academic Year 5:00 to 8:00 Wednesday, 8:30 to 11:30 Sunday, and 3 hours prep time. Summer noon to 3:00 Wednesday, 8:30 to 11:30 Sunday. VBS week and preparation is closer to 40-hour weeks. Occasional special events on Saturdays

Essential Functions

Leadership:

  • Plan, prepare, recruit volunteers and if necessary, lead weekly Wednesday night children’s events during the school year and weekly activities during the summer.
  • Curriculum is expected to be rooted in scripture and Methodist theology.
  • Working with the Senior Pastor, schedule and deliver weekly children’s sermons during congregational worship.
  • Work with Sunday School teachers for both pre-school/Kindergarten and elementary to develop discipleship ministry that is consistent with the children’s ministry program.
  • Fill in as teacher when necessary.
  • Recruit, train and lead children volunteer ministers
  • Develop and oversee a volunteer Children’s Ministry Team that meets once per month.

Communication:

  • Establish regular communication with children’s families, volunteer ministers and the congregation via face-to-face, social media, digitally and phone.
  • Working with the church secretary, promote children’s ministry and The Community Park at Westside via social media, mail and digital platforms.
  • Meet with the pastor regularly, attend any staff meetings and attend administrative council meetings.

Events:

  • Plan, organize, promote and purchase supplies for all children’s events to include but not be limited to Christmas Children’s Living Nativity, Easter Egg Hunt, Vacation Bible School, Back to School Celebration, Trunk or Treat, and Teacher Appreciation spring and fall meals at Hustonville Elementary.

Administration:

  • Establish and maintain a database of children’s family contact information, birthdays, favorite candies and activities, and any other pertinent information to effective children’s ministry.
  • Maintain an inventory of ministry supplies for Children’s ministry and prepare materials for weekly ministry as established by the CMT.
  • Working with the Senior Pastor and CMT, develop an annual plan for children’s ministry by November 1st of the current year for the following year
  • Establish and oversee an annual children’s ministry budget that is reflective of the annual plan.
