Adaptive Recreation Supervisor, The City of Bowling Green’s Human Resources Department, Bowling Green, KY

DUTIES: Duties and responsibilities include oversee daily operation of BGPR Kummer/Little Recreation Center and assessing the recreational needs of served populations and creating programs and special events to fulfill those needs, leading and supervising recreational activities while monitoring all facets of risk management involved with activities; supervising staff and volunteers; preparing budgets and monitoring expenditures and grants; fundraising; and preparing reports. Supervises, directs, trains and evaluates assigned staff, handling employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals. Coordinates and manages the Adaptive Recreation program for senior citizens, children and adults with mental and physical disabilities, and other special needs groups, including planning, coordinating, and overseeing recreational programs and special events; leads and supervises activities as required. Monitors and approves expenditures and oversees program grants. Plans and supervises Camp Happy Days program; teaches and provides guidance regarding a variety of sports and activities and proper utilization of equipment. Recruits and utilizes volunteers to assist with programs; recruits, coaches and trains mentally/physically challenged individuals to participate in the Special Olympics programs; serves as competition manager for Special Olympics as required. Solicits sponsorships and donations to assist Special Olympics and special departmental events. Develops and prepares periodic reports for the Division, including budget, participation, revenue, and grant reports; attends meetings; purchases needed equipment and supplies; publicizes and promotes programs utilizing flyers and public service announcements and public speeches to potential volunteer and/or sponsorship organizations.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related (Master’s degree in Recreation Administration preferred), with three to five years of experience coordinating various recreational activities for Adaptive Recreation, such as mentally/physically challenged persons and/or senior citizens and/or athletic program; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

SALARY: Pay Grade 118; $50,126/yr. ($24.09/hr.); plus full benefit package

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week; typically Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. with occasional overtime
