Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is seeking a passionate, purpose driven, systems thinker, with a deep understanding of the needs and complexities of vulnerable populations to fill the role Senior Specialist of Programs (SSP) within the organization’s Housing and Community Strategy (HCS) team. The HCS team works with Habitat for Humanity local offices across the United States primarily through thought partnership, capacity building and investments in strategic programs. The team’s efforts are grounded in social justice and equity and focused on identifying, investing in, and scaling innovative approaches to affordable housing, economic mobility, health equity, and neighborhood transformation. Current investments meant to drive more equitable health outcomes for marginalized populations and historically under-resourced communities include Habitat’s Health & Housing, Advancing Black Homeownership, and Neighborhood Revitalization programs.
The program team seeks to design, support, fund and evaluate programming rooted in making communities more equitable and increasing access to affordable homeownership. The SSP will be responsible for supporting and implementing grantmaking and technical assistance that understands racism as a threat to health and housing equity. The SSP will support the implementation of the program team’s work, including strategies with a focus on supporting people to be able to safely maintain their homes and build intergenerational wealth in low-income communities. This includes scaling and evolving programs meant to improve housing conditions and the overall health of homeowners. The SSP will engage and assist Habitat affiliates to adopt, adapt and implement program strategies. The SSP will also build out new approaches that support the overall wellness of those receiving Habitat services and seek to reduce race-based disparities in health and housing outcomes.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Support local Habitat offices to adopt and implement programs that support equity. (25%)
- Build out new approaches that support the affiliate network in providing holistic and comprehensive integrated services. (20%)
- Support in grant management, tracking and meeting funder requirements. (20%)
- Stay abreast of relevant innovations and emerging trends in racial and socioeconomic equity and the social determinants of health that will positively impact outcomes for vulnerable populations. (10%)
- Communicate effectively to internal and external audiences in writing and verbally, Habitat’s program vision, strategies, holistic approach and commitment to working in partnership with others. (10%)
- Support leadership and the Associate Director of Programs with program development and implementation. (15%)
Minimum Requirements
Education:
- GED, High School Diploma, Associates or Bachelor’s degree with a focus/interest in equity, race, public health, urban studies, public administration or related, sociology, gerontology, or related field with coursework equivalent combination of education and work experience
- Educational or life experience that has guided an understanding of racial and socioeconomic inequity
Years of Related Experience:
- 3-5 years of related experience with program design, grants administration, and managing complex projects.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Experience with equity principles and their use in designing programming/policy with communities who have experienced disinvestment and marginalization
- Deep understanding of the racial inequities faced by BIPOC communities
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Experience and success in managing complex programs including technical assistance to end users
- Existing career focus on policy analysis and development, evidence-based program design, systems transformation and/or community collaboration
Preferred Requirements (in addition to minimum):
- Moderate knowledge of placed-based community strategies, affordable housing and public health, human-centered design, and/or developmental evaluation
- Experience with principles of equitable development or social/economic/environmental justice frameworks

The actual salary offered for this role will be based on a variety of factors, including location, internal equity and the candidate’s qualifications and professional experience. HFHI offers a competitive, comprehensive benefits package that varies by country and typically includes vacation leave, sick leave, personal days, health insurance options, retirement plan contributions and life insurance.
For work locations in the US, the salary range for this position is between $52,900-$79,300 per year. The target hiring range for this position is $56,185 -$62,795.
