Service (Automotive) Technician; Master (Automotive) Technician, The City of Bowling Green, Bowling Green, KY

ONE VACANCY – POSITION DEPENDENT ON EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATION

SERVICE TECHNICIAN: Performs repairs and maintenance on all City vehicles and equipment. Completes all automotive and equipment repairs to include: engine diagnosis and repair, suspension and steering diagnosis   and repair, brakes diagnosis and repair, electrical diagnosis and repair, heating and air conditioning diagnosis and repair, engine performance diagnosis and repair. Completes all automotive and equipment maintenance to include:  tire maintenance, fluid and filter replacement, post and pre seasonal equipment inspections. Accurately records details of each repair or maintenance performed within the Fleet’s work order system.

MASTER TECHNICIAN: Performs computer system diagnostics of the following systems and repairs: anti‐lock brakes, inflatable restraint, emission control, suspension and steering, heating and air conditioning.  Operates engine performance diagnostic computer of 4 gas analyzer, electronic control module system scanner, air conditioning refrigerant recovery, recycling and dispensing equipment.  Performs total vehicle and equipment comprehensive preventative maintenance inspections and repairs.  Performs the more complicated diagnostic computer tests and evaluates vehicle performance, and diagnoses drivability and intermittent problems concerning automobiles and light trucks.  Performs welding in the fabricating or repair of automotive body parts or other equipment requiring welding.   Plans priorities and changes with supervisor and informs other personnel of priorities; creates work orders and supervises other projects; acts as lead worker during absence of supervisor to perform job duties and ensure work orders are completed.  Serves as information resource for other technicians; creates work orders and supervises other projects; acts as lead worker during absence of supervisor to perform job duties and ensure work orders are completed.   Inspects and maintains shop equipment; transports equipment for servicing.

REQUIREMENTS:

SERVICE TECHNICIAN: High School diploma (or GED) or vocational training required, with one to three years’ experience working in the automotive repair industry; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.  ASE Certifications preferred, but not required.

MASTER TECHNICIAN: Associate’s degree or the equivalent of two years of college or vocational school education in automotive repair, with five to seven years’ experience working with various equipment; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.  Requires ASE Certification in at least six areas.

SALARY: Pay Grade 115 or 117 (depending on experience/certifications); $43,301‐$47,739 annually, $20.82  ‐  $22.95/hourly; plus full benefits package

WORK HOURS:  Monday – Friday, 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM, occasional overtime
