Financial Specialist, The City of Bowling Green, Bowling Green, KY

Job Description: This position’s main focus will be in the License Division. This position will also provide administrative and financial support to one or more of the major functions of the Finance Department and Accounting divisions.

DUTIES: License: Interacts with the general public in person and via telephone and mail to provide occupational license-related information and to interpret City ordinances. Reviews and processes business registration applications; issues business licenses; assists with the processing of Occupational License Tax Refunds and credits; assists customers with filling out tax forms as required; conducts periodic audits of unlicensed contractors.

Treasury: Reconciles daily bank lockbox reports to tax returns; reviews property tax payments; processes and reconciles mail payments received. Calculates and reconciles Occupational Tax distributions for special tax districts. Calculates and reconciles Transient Room Tax distribution according to City ordinance to Tourist Commission and Convention Center Fund. Prepares and reconciles billing for all Code Enforcement violations and fees. Prepares delinquent property tax notices.

Accounting: Monitors City’s travel system for all personnel; coordinates City’s purchase order system for weekly check runs, reviews/checks purchase requisitions for proper documentation; assists with new vendor registrations;

REQUIREMENTS: Associate’s degree in Accounting (or related) required, (with three to five years of administrative office or bookkeeping experience) or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. Tax background preferred.

SALARY: Pay Grade 115; $43,301 /yr. ($20.81/hr.), plus an excellent benefit package

WORK HOURS: 40 hours per week; typically Monday – Friday 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
