CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — For the first time, Campbellsville University has exceeded 2,400 students, with a final head count of 2,405 for the fall 2007 semester.
Dr. Michael V. Carter, president, has announced the fall 2007 semester sets yet another enrollment record, up from 2,181 total students in the spring.
The total number of students in fall 2006 was 2,374.
“Each semester more and more students are finding their calling here,” Carter said.
CU’s student population comes from 98 of Kentucky’s 120 counties, from 25 states and from 29 countries.
Campbellsville University also exceeded records in the number of on-campus students, with 826 living in the residence halls, which is a 4 percent increase and 739 commuting to campus, for a total of 1,565, according to Paul Dameron, director of institutional research.
The total number of students includes those enrolled in off-campus programs, which is 840 of the total 2,405.
Campbellsville University has 561 new students, which includes new freshmen, transfers and those readmitted to CU. This is a 3.8 percent increase over last fall, and just one student short of the 2004 record of 562 new students.
The number of transfer students was 148, which tied the 2006 record, and this fall 374 new freshmen enrolled, which is second-most to the 395 new freshmen record set in fall 2004.
CU had 39 students readmitted, which is a new record.
There was also a 6.6 percent increase in undergraduate retention, with 983 degree-seeking undergraduates returning to CU.
There was a seven percent increase in the number of regular full-time, degree-seeking undergraduates, a total of 1,299. The total number of degree-seeking undergraduates jumped to 1,544, a 5.6 percent increase.
CU’s English as a Second Language (ESL) program showed a 20 percent increase, with 59 students now enrolled in the program.
The retention rate of degree-seeking undergraduates from fall 2006 to fall 2007 is 72 percent.
The largest record set for Campbellsville University’s fall semester comes in the nursing program, which shows 96 percent growth due to the opening of its second class. The program now has a total enrollment of 55 students.
CU’s School of Nursing will graduate its first group of nursing candidates in May 2008.
“Our entire campus community is to thank for another record-setting enrollment,” Carter said. “Each one of our faculty and staff members plays an important role in extending the story of Campbellsville University to prospective students, current students and their parents.”
Vice President for Admissions and Student Services Dave Walters said, “Each new record set equals an even higher goal for the future.”
“Success requires us to set the bar higher and work even harder to obtain admissions objectives, but it feels good to know what we are doing is paying off,” Walters said.
