CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — If you are going to be on campus Oct. 11, and you are “Once a Fighting Tiger, Always a Fighting Tiger,” plan to participate in a golf scramble at 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 11, at the Campbellsville Country Club.
Dave Petett, who played as a Fighting Tiger from 1998 to 2001 for the late coach Ron Finley, is organizing the event as a “great opportunity for not only alumni to hang out before the Georgetown game, but we welcome all of our friends, family and supporters to come out and join in the event.”
The cost per player is $50, which will include the 18-hole scramble and lunch. All proceeds from the day will go directly to the 12th Man Club, which is the booster club for the football program.
Petett said the scramble is open to all alumni and friends of the program.
He said the idea originated last year with three goals: 1. To honor Coach Finley as he made such a positive difference in so many lives; 2. To get alumni and friends of the program together to fellowship, and Homecoming seemed a great opportunity for this, and 3. To raise money for the 12th Man Club.
“Our goal this year is to get 12 teams and top last year’s mark of $1,000 raised,” he said.
He also said if you are not a golfer and want to sponsor a hole or one of the hole prizes, it would be appreciated.
Prizes include: $400, first place team; $200, second place team (if there are 10 or more teams); $50 closest to the pin, and $50 long drive.
Petett said there are 36 players committed thus far, and he hopes to have more. Of the 36, 20 are former CU players.
Petett was a wide receiver for the Tigers and served as a captain on the 2001 team that won 10 games and advanced to the second round of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics National Playoffs. Contact him at david.petett@cville.kyschools.us for more information.
