Job Responsibilities

The Student Success Coordinator will work to assist students academically, socially and/or personally in an effort to improve student retention, persistence, and graduation rates.  Through the development and implementation of student success and orientation programs for both in-seat and on-line students, the coordinator will have a targeted focus on first-year student success.  This position will serve as the co-director of the first-year initiative titled, UC Patriots Readiness and Engagement Program (UC PREP), and will coordinate university-wide disability services.  The Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Dean of Undergraduate education to design and implement retention initiatives, maintain MAP Works, and communicate with faculty regarding student success concerns.  The Student Success Coordinator will:

  • Coordinate new student orientation programs for in-seat and on-line students
  • Collaborate with the Dean of Undergraduate studies to implement all aspects of the UC PREP initiative, including new student advising, PASS 100, SOAR, and INSIGHTS
  • Establish plans of action to address negative attrition/retention patterns
  • Prepare and present retention updates and reports
  • Identify and develop student success indicators for purposes of monitoring, evaluating and reporting on student academic progress, persistence, attrition/retention and graduation rates
  • Maintain MAP Works data and contact students in jeopardy of withdrawing or failing school
  • Provide individual and group Student Success Skills sessions/workshops
  • Communicate with students on a regular basis in-person, telephone, mail, and e-mail to facilitate retention activities
  • Publicize and disseminate student support materials to students
  • Coordinate all aspects of student disability services
  • Participate in various departmental, campus and college initiatives related to retention and student success, including outreach events
  • Build and maintain an awareness of current trends and best practices in retention and student success areas and integrate such knowledge into campus programs and services
  • Coordinate assessment of all program areas of responsibility
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements

Candidates must have the character, personality, and proper social capability to relate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the community.  Applicants must have a master's degree and at least three (3) years of experience in student advising, recruitment, retention, or other related student services areas.  Good oral and written communication skills and an understanding of college programs and procedures regarding advisement, registration, and financial aid is desirable.
