The First Year Coach will be responsible for developing and providing direct services to first year student cohorts to promote academic achievement, persistence, and graduation. The FY Coach provides high-touch case management services and high-tech connections. The FY Coach will assist in developing and implementing new first year orientation and services that reflect best practices in the area of student retention. The FY Coach reports to the First Year Center Director.
*Please note: This posting is for 2 positions located in Lexington at the Cooper campus.
Provide academic advising and case management services to assigned first year students through the FY Center.
Participate in the development and implementation of campus-wide first year orientation and support activities.
Work cooperatively with college faculty, advisors, and other departments to coordinate services to first year students.
Keep accurate records relating to services provided to participants.
Assist in the development and implementation of program evaluation activities.
Coordinate First Year Peer Mentor activities.
Participate in Student Development and Enrollment Management Division programs and services.
Attend professional meetings and training sessions.
Provide monthly data and semester reports.
Promote the First Year Center program throughout the college.
Serve on college committees as assigned.
Support accountability and institutional effectiveness by developing, implementing, and assessing effective procedures that support college operations and foster student success.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work or related field.
At least two years of experience in student support services working with community college students, including at-risk, and underrepresented populations.
Commitment to the mission of the comprehensive community and technical college.
Demonstrated knowledge of current and promising practices for student learning, development and retention.
Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively with others.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
