Position Description:  Operations

•Open the building for arrival of All Day Junior Academy students and School Age Care students
•Supervise day-to-day operations of preschool: supervise all children’s programs and ensure overall health/safety of the program
•Supervise the day-to-day operations of the School Age Care program for the elementary students
•Work with Elementary Principal to assure policies and procedures are in compliance with Christian Academy School System
•Actively promote the school, its philosophy and its mission
•Attend school functions, Open Houses, and pertinent meetings
•Create policy statements and updates for handbook; ensure both staff and parents understand and comply with handbook
•Oversee preschool enrollment process keeping accurate lists of both full and part day students
•Process applications and establish cumulative student files
•Set up class sections based on schedule and student/adult ratios
•Coordinate and communicate calendar with Elementary School
•Conduct tours of facility to potential families
•Provide supervision for efficient preschool administrative office functions
•Make arrangements for field trips, resource visits, and student performances
•Coordinate chapels
•Manage the inclement weather closings of the All Day Program through collaboration with the Elementary Principal
•Responsible for ongoing development, evaluation and oversight of the Christ-centered, developmentally appropriate curriculum
•Assist staff in the supervision and guidance of preschool children and deal with discipline challenges
•Be available to conduct and contribute to regularly scheduled activities
•Communicate and clarify school policies and philosophy to parents, teachers and other staff; orient and mentor new parents; orient and mentor new teachers
•Conduct parent conferences in coordination with teachers
•Advise and guide parents in the area of Kindergarten readiness
•Write letters of recommendation in coordination with teachers
•Review potential child development issues; assist teachers in the identification of developmental issues in children, advise and counsel parents regarding these issues, and refer parents to appropriate resources
•Contribute to the planning and development of the annual school calendar
•Work in coordination with elementary principal on the implementation of parent education meetings periodically throughout the year
Staff Management
•Manage and schedule teaching staff and assistants work schedules, including summer and vacation breaks
•Mentor and guide Junior Academy Teachers and assistants
•Facilitate First Aide/CPR training through the school nurse.
•Manage Junior Academy Personnel Files
•Conduct performance evaluations
•Facilitate professional development workshops and seminars for the staff
•Resolve conflicts as needed
•Manage staff following school procedures, including employment, discipline, etc.
•Approve classroom correspondence, lesson plans, and calendars
•Coordinate Teacher/staff scheduling and classroom coverage
•Coordinate staff recruitment and orientation with Elementary Principal and Human Resources Department
•Create and implement role definitions for all staff
•Maintain current Teacher substitute list and arrange for substitutes in the absence of teachers and assistants
•Keep apprised of current education requirements for all staff and ensure compliance
•On-going enhancement and growth of the Junior Academy preschool program, including curriculum development
•Effective leadership, guidance and communication to the faculty and staff
•Excellent academic, social, and emotional development for these young students as evidenced by readiness for kindergarten through informal assessments and observations
