Career Services Statement of Purpose: The primary objective of Career Services is to assist students and graduates in securing employment by developing industry relationships, communicating opportunities and providing guidance and resources.
The Role and Scope of Position:
The Career Services Advisor is responsible for the delivery of services and outcomes that support the primary objective of the Career Services Function. The two main focuses of the position include industry-employer development matched with student-graduate job search campaign guidance and career coaching. The two aspects are equally important and should be evenly/ strategically incorporated into the work schedule. The Career Services Advisor works directly with students, alumni and employers with the purpose of successfully attaining their career aspirations and employment goals.
Main Job Tasks and Responsibilities, but not limited to: Employer Relationship Development/ Employment Opportunity Generation:
Maintain regular contact with employers to develop cooperative partnerships including, but not limited to, identifying viable job opportunities, internship, career fair participation, advisory board membership, etc.
Strategically participate in industry networking functions that may develop into beneficial relationship to support students and graduate success.
Match appropriate resumes to job orders and distribute resumes promptly.
Assist employers in facilitating hiring process: contacting students, graduates for interviews.
Student/ Graduate Coaching:
Advise students, graduates and alumni on career services issues including: job search strategies, resume development and interviewing.
Work with students to educate and prepare them for their future careers utilizing career advising techniques, career development strategies and career education and preparation techniques.
Conduct Pre-Graduation Career Planning Consultations with each upcoming graduate individually.Conduct workshops on resume writing, interviewing, job search techniques and other career related topics.
Research and communicate current job postings to active candidates on a regular basis.
Create, coordinate, and facilitate student engagement and job readiness related educational opportunities in the form of industry information sessions, hand out resources.
Ensure student and graduate employment information is maintained up to date in official student database system.
Ensure appropriate documentation is collected to support reported graduate employment or waiver statuses for accreditation.
Ensure regular use of official student database system to report student/ graduate contact activity, employer contact activity, job opportunities, internship opportunities, employments.
Upload regulatory career services documents into official student database system.
Assist in collection of graduate surveys, employer surveys, and employment verifications.
Assist in the coordination of events including, but not limited to orientation, graduation, alumni, career fairs, advisory boards.
Qualifications: Associates degree and/or related work experience. Minimum 2 years of experience in higher education or audio industry preferable; or 2 years experience in full cycle recruiting, consultative sales preferable.
Managing work flow: Excellent organizational, time management and attention to detail skills. Proficient with Microsoft
Office applications for MAC
Communicating: Excellent and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Learning & Adapting: Ability to manage and adapt to working with individuals of various backgrounds.
Maximizing Resources: Ability to think creatively and provide solutions with available resources.
Quality & Customer Focus: Provides Excellent customer service and attention to accurate record keeping
This position requires the flexibility of working evening and weekends.
Sitting for long periods while on campus. Standing for workshop presentations. Visits to employers off campus when necessary.
