CU to host David Johnson, Christian photojournalist, at chapel Nov. 9

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Campbellsville University will be hosting David Johnson, president and founder of Silent Images, on Wednesday, Nov. 9 at 10 a.m. in Ransdell Chapel, located at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.

Chapel is free and open to the public.

Johnson is a Christian photojournalist who founded Silent Images, a non-profit photography organization, in 2007.

Johnson is the author of two books on Africa, “Voices of Sudan” in 2007 and “Voice of Beauty” in 2009. He has given lectures at New York University, University of California at Berkeley, Occidental College, Stanford University, University of North Carolina and Duke. He has also been the keynote speaker at conferences at Penn State, Baylor University and the Duke Energy Diversity conference.

Johnson covers topics ranging from having a global lens, global poverty, genocide, Sudan, photography, women’s issues in Africa, Haiti and empowering the poor.

Donald Yamamoto, the United States ambassador to Ethiopia, said, “David and his organization, Silent Images, have done a great service for women and girls of Africa in ‘Voice of Beauty.’ This is one of the first books I have seen that accurately portrays the hope and beauty of the women and girls in Africa. The photography is stunning, and I keep a copy in the U.S. Embassy to share with all of our visitors.”

Chapel is designed to provide opportunities for corporate worship and exposure through a variety of informative speakers and presentations. All chapels are open to the public free of charge and are televised live on WLCU (Comcast Cable channel 10) and on WLCU Radio 88.7 FM and are streamed live on the Internet.
