Campbellsville University will have three new undergraduate majors beginning this fall including Spanish, interdisciplinary early childhood education and Christian missions. A new minor is photojournalism is also being added.

“It is important that Campbellsville University continue to develop programs that will provide new opportunities for our students,” Dr. Frank Cheatham, vice president for academic affairs, said.

“The faculty is very sensitive to the needs of students and society as indicated by approval of these three new majors,” Cheatham said.

With these additions, the university now has 45 undergraduate programs, 16 master’s degrees and five postgraduate areas.

Dr. John Hurtgen, dean of the School of Theology and professor, said, “Campbellsville University has a long heritage of preparing young men and women for missions, even without a program per se… After years of prospective students and current students asking for a missions program of study, the School of Theology now proposes to add a major and minor program of study in Christian missions.

“Importantly, with the Southern Baptist Convention’s ‘Great Commission Resurgence Taskforce’ currently studying ways to re-energize the missional task among our churches and convention, now seems the right time to position our university as an equipper of those pursuing missions in either a North American or international context.”

New students are still being accepted for the fall 2010 semester. To begin classes at CU, contact the Office of Admissions at 270-789-5220 or 1-800-264-6014.

Classes start Monday, Aug. 23.
