Audrey Wunderlich crowned 70th Valentine Queen

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.—Audrey Wunderlich, a sophomore of Frankfort, Ky., won the title of Campbellsville University Valentine Queen at the 70th annual Valentine Pageant on Feb. 10.

The pageant is the longest-running tradition on CU’s campus.

Wunderlich represented the CU chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA). She also won the interview award and the poise/appearance award. Her talent was a jazz dance routine to the song “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy.”

Wunderlich is the daughter of Tom and Angie Wunderlich. She is a cheerleader for CU, majoring in public relations. Cole Torbert, a senior of Brentwood, Tenn., escorted her.

Holly Davidson, a senior of Danville, Ky., representing Residence Life, won first runner-up and the contestant-voted award of Miss Congeniality. She is the daughter of Troy and Cindi Davidson. Her escort, Austin Hammons, a senior of Lawrenceburg, Ky., won the award of Best Escort. Davidson sang the song “Shy” for her talent.

Andrea Nolley, a junior of Elkhorn, Ky., won second runner-up. She represented the Junior Class, and sang “A Living Prayer” for her talent. She is the daughter of Greg and Djuana Nolley.

Fern Thomas, a sophomore of Madisonville, Ky., won the talent portion of the pageant, singing her rendition of “The Girl in 14G.” She represented the University Chorale. She is the daughter of Bill and Angela Thomas.

Special guests for the evening were five previous winners of the Valentine Pageant: Kelsey Best, who was last year’s winner; Camille Bingham Turner, who won in 1983; Renee Dudgeon Bland, who won in 1975; Sharon Peavler Gowin, who won in 1964; and Phala Devore Blaydes, who won in 1962.

There were five other contestants competing in the pageant. Emiri Anraku, daughter of Osamu and Sanae Anraku of Japan, represented Connected Cultures; Kaylynn Best, daughter of David and Sheila Best of Harrodsburg, Ky., represented Phi Alpha Theta; Leslie Carver, daughter of Tim and Sandy Carver of Alexandria, Ky., represented the Senior Class; Jess Harris, daughter of Timothy and Rebecca Harris of Louisville, Ky., represented Baptist Campus Ministry; and Kaity Skaggs, daughter of James Skaggs of Mt. Sherman, Ky., and Jodie Case of Boston, Ky., represented the Sophomore Class.

Regina Cox, Susan Dabney and Connie Shuffett judged the event.

The theme of this year’s pageant was “Silly Love Songs.” The event was hosted by the CU Student Government Association and was conducted by the SGA president Zachary Myers of Campbellsville, Ky.
