 Kelsey Best

Best, a Campbellsville junior from Harrodsburg, has won a Frankfort Semester Internship Program slot in the program sponsored by the Association of Independent Kentucky Colleges and Universities. She is working in the 2012 General Assembly with State Sen. Kathy Stein, a Lexington Democrat.

Best is a graduate of Boyle County High School and at Campbellsville is a dean’s list student and a Student Government Association executive council board member. She plans to attend law school after her graduation from CU next year.

The Frankfort internship program, now entering its 13th consecutive year, is designed to give outstanding students an opportunity to see state government up close and consider public service as a career option. Students are chosen for the program on the basis of their academic success, interest in government, personal interviews and letters of recommendation. A total of 110 students have either completed the program or are currently enrolled in it.

While in Frankfort students are required to work 30 hours per week in their internship and complete two seminars. One seminar focuses on public policy development and the other on recent Kentucky governmental and political history. Completion of the program qualifies them for 15 semester hours of credit from their home institutions.

Campbellsville University is a widely acclaimed Kentucky-based Christian university with more than 3,500 students offering 63 undergraduate options, 17 master’s degrees, five postgraduate areas and eight pre-professional programs. The website for complete information is campbellsville.edu.
