Sperry returning to Campbellsville University for organ recital Feb. 10

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Dr. James Sperry, a retired church musician and college instructor from Greensburg, Ky., is returning to Campbellsvilile University to present a Noon Organ Recital at 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 425 N. Central Ave, Campbellsville, Ky. He previously performed on the series in 2010 and 2012.

He will be performing on the Pomplitz organ that is housed at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. His program will include a variety of short works that stretch throughout the history of organ literature.

Everyone is invited to the free concert which ends at 12:50 p.m.

Sperry has had a varied career as a church musician and college instructor. He has taught organ, music history and theory at Belleville Area College in Illinois, El Paso Community College and University of Texas at El Paso.

He was the head of arts and humanities at Huron College in South Dakota. During his teaching career, he held church positions as organist and director of music. He has more recently served as organist at Memorial United Methodist Church in Elizabethtown, Ky.

His other performing instrument is the harpsichord and has played with early music groups at the University of Texas at El Paso and Las Cruces. He was awarded a performance grant from the South Dakota Arts Council.

He holds degrees from University at Santa Barbara, University of Oregon and Washington University, St. Louis.
He and his wife, Patsy, are retired and living in Greensburg, Ky.
