CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky.— Campbellsville University invites everyone to the first Congregational Song Festival “A Journey of Faith in His Song” Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 6:30 p.m. in Ransdell Chapel, located on the campus of Campbellsville University at 401 N. Hoskins Ave., Campbellsville.
The event is free and open to the public, and is for all ages and all denominations.
Dr. Tony Cunha, dean of the School of Music at Campbellsville University, said the Congregational Song Festival will provide “a different worship experience.”
“A Journey of Faith in His Song” will follow five movements of worship: Hearing His Song, Obeying His Song, Praying His Song, Proclaiming His Song and Celebrating His Song.
There will not be any performing ensembles, but will be “fully congregational—the main ensemble in the church,” Cunha said.
“The only spoken word will be reading from the Bible, and we will let the songs proclaim the Gospel,” he said. “We will experience a time of worship through singing hymns and songs.”
Cunha said singing is “a powerful tool several churches are missing. Many refuse to sing because they don’t know the words. We refuse to learn, we refuse to share and we refuse to give the Holy Spirit an opportunity to speak through our singing.”
Cunha said he hopes the festival will “rekindle the desire to sing in our churches.”
The Rev. John Chowning, vice president for church and external relations and executive assistant to the president, said, “We encourage area churches to bring their Wednesday night service to Ransdell Chapel for a night of worship set to song.”
“Don’t come to watch a concert; come to sing,” Cunha said. “Bring your sore throat drops because we’ll be singing from the beginning until the end.”
